Baltimore Weekly City Paper--We Are The Champions

We Are the Champions

We Say...

Ladies, as usual, you're under attack. Not just because it appears rape continues to be underreported and underinvestigated in Baltimore, but because the new Speaker of the House John Boehner, recipient of the 2010 Henry J. Hyde Defender of Life Award, and the incoming Congress have already announced that they're taking aim at women's rights. Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) is sponsoring the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (HR 217), which he first introduced in 2009, and which joins Reps. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Dan Lipinski's (D-Ill.) "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act," introduced in July. So head down to D.C. to hear six reproductive justice leaders-feminist activist/organizer Shelby Knox, Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights' Youth and Reproductive Justice Programs Coordinator Miriam "Mimi" Madrid, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice Interim Executive Director Aimee Thorne-Thomsen, Manifesta; Young Women, Feminism, and the Future author Amy Richards, Choice USA at California State University-Long Beach President Andrew Jenkins, and Women's Media Center Vice President of Progress Jamia Wilson-talk about what you need to know in preparation for the coming fight over who has control over your body.
